Publishing Your Website Safely

Goal: Understand how changes become visible to the public.

What you will learn

  • The four stages: editing, previewing, publishing, checking
  • Why a good preview isn’t a guarantee
  • The Five-Minute Website Check
  • How to use the printable publishing checklist

Four stages, every time

  1. 1Editing: you ask Lovable for a change.
  2. 2Previewing: you look at the result privately.
  3. 3Publishing: you make that version live for the public.
  4. 4Checking: you visit your real website and confirm everything works.

Why the preview isn’t the whole story

A preview is a rehearsal. Some things only fully work on the live website: your custom domain, contact forms that send real emails, payment buttons, booking tools and other connected services.

That’s why the final step, checking the live site, is never optional.

The Five-Minute Website Check

After every publish, take five minutes to do this:

  1. 1Open the live website using your real address.
  2. 2Check the homepage looks right.
  3. 3Click the important buttons.
  4. 4Test your forms by sending yourself a message.
  5. 5Check the website on your phone.
  6. 6Verify your important links (menu, booking, social media).

Practice activity

Run your Five-Minute Check

Open your live website in another tab and tick each step as you go.

Common mistakes

Publishing without looking at the preview.

Always preview first, including a phone-sized view.

Assuming the form works because the preview looked fine.

Send a real test message from the live website.

Checking an old, saved version of the page.

Refresh the page, or open it in a private browsing window.
