Welcome to Your Website

Goal: Understand what you own and how your website works.

What you will learn

  • What a website, a domain and hosting actually are
  • What Lovable is and what “AI website building” means
  • The difference between building and maintaining a website
  • What publishing means and what you own

The big picture in one sentence

“Your website is your house. Your domain is its street address. Hosting is the land it sits on. Lovable is your renovation team. You are the homeowner.”

Keep this picture in your head for the whole course. Almost every confusing word on the internet fits somewhere in this house.

Tap the labels on the house below to see how each part matches your website.

House

Your website: the pages and rooms people visit.

Tap another label to explore.

What is a website?

A website is a collection of pages that people can visit on the internet. Each page is like a room in your house: a Home room, an About room, a Contact room.

When someone types your address into their phone or computer, they are walking up to your front door and stepping inside.

What is Lovable?

Lovable is a tool that builds and changes websites when you describe what you want in plain words. Instead of learning computer code, you type something like “Change my phone number on the Contact page,” and Lovable makes the change for you.

That is what “AI website building” means: an AI (a computer helper that understands everyday language) does the technical work, and you give the instructions.

Building vs. maintaining

Building is like constructing the house. Your developer already did that part for you.

Maintaining is like living in the house: updating the paint, swapping photos on the wall, fixing a squeaky door. That is your job now, and this course will show you how.

Domain, hosting and publishing

A domain is your website’s address, like yourbusiness.com. People type it to find you. You usually rent a domain one year at a time from a company called a domain registrar.

Hosting is the always-on computer space where your website lives so people can visit it any time of day. With Lovable, published websites are hosted for you.

Publishing means taking the version you have been working on and making it visible to the public. Until you publish, changes stay private, like rearranging furniture with the curtains closed.

What does ownership mean?

Owning your website means you control the account where it lives, you control (or know who controls) the domain, and you are responsible for any bills that keep it running.

Ownership is not automatic. Module 3 walks you through checking each piece, one at a time.

Match the words

Pick a word, then pick the meaning that fits it. Get all six to finish.

Words

Meanings

Common mistakes

Thinking the domain and the website are the same thing.

The domain is just the address. You can keep the address and change the house, or move the house to a new address.

Assuming changes are live the moment you make them.

Changes stay private until you publish. Always check the live website after publishing.

Believing that because someone built it for you, you automatically own every piece.

Ownership of the project, domain and billing each need to be confirmed. Module 3 shows you how.
